Love, loss, and the conquest of French cuisine

Through the insatiably interesting BrainPickings I found The wonderful illustrations of the classic Alice B. Toklas Cookbook by Natacha Ledwidge. Published in 1954 this enjoyable (out of print) book with mixed reminiscences and recipes is an autobiography of the otherwise forgotten figure that lived and died in the shadow of Gertrude Stein. Ironically enough it was The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas that became Stein's bestselling book. I love the ethereal aesthetic of these images that illustrates such an interesting (full of autobiographical content) little book.
